The sweltering heat lay over the desert like a blanket, obscuring the view of the lone gunslinger slowly limping his way down the abandoned road.  His revolvers hung low on his hips, bookending his thin frame.  A tumbleweed or two rolled by on his right, but he took no notice for he was trying to ignore the pain in his left leg.  A native had shot him with an arrow for disobeying the peace treaty bartered a year past and now the entire tribe was on his tail. He had lost them a few miles back, but there was no doubt that they would find him sooner rather than later.

He took a few more steps as a small town came into view. Population: 42. Perfect. He pulled a small syringe filled with an orange something from a pouch on his belt. He had acquired the serum from a shaman in the Amazons. It is said that the serum would put him into a deep slumber for three days – just enough time to be declared dead enough that everyone would believe it. Sweat ran down his brow as he contemplated the consequences of what he was about to do – hoping that the shaman spoke true. Holding his breath, he plunged the syringe into his thigh, infusing the orange goo into his bloodstream and muscles. He had just enough time to put the syringe back into his pouch before he began staggering forwards and backwards. His vision blurred, mostly from the serum and partially from the heat. With a thud and a puff of dust he hit the ground, laying on his back and out cold. A small lizard scuttled out of view.

“CUT!” a director shouted from behind the small monitor. “Thanks, Richard – that was just great!”

“Thanks,” he said with a smile as he got up and dusted himself off.  He walked over towards a bin of bottles of water in ice, searching out the coldest at the bottom, as a PA approached him with a smile.

“Mr. Brook, you were wonderful in that scene – in this whole shoot!” She extended her hand, “My name is Amy.”

“Thank you very much, Amy.” He smiled gratefully and extended his hand as well.

“You know, my daughter, Jessica, just absolutely loves your Storyteller series. She watches them over and over again.”

He nodded in appreciation, “Well, that’s what they’re there for.”

“Would you mind signing this for her?” Amy produced a DVD, hopeful.

“Oh yeah, sure, sure.” He grabbed one of her pens and quickly wrote out:

Thanks for being a fan! :)

ALL the best! -

Richard Brook

“There you go,” he handed it back to her and saw the appreciative smile on her face, “I’ll be in my trailer for when you need me.” She nodded in understanding as he made his way into the air conditioned trailer. Tiredly, he slid into the booth adjacent to the small table and picked up his cell phone texting:

Why can I imagine him thinking, "Please let this status update give me an excuse to get out of this hell, thank you!"

I like the idea of him as an actor, it's perfect.
